20 lined up for Ordination to Diaconate and Priesthood

Preparations and arrangements for the ordination of deacons and priests for the year 2024 in Hoima Catholic diocese are underway.

From the Banns that are being announced, the candidates will be ordained priests and deacons in a Solemn Eucharistic Celebration on Saturday 27th July 2024 at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral, Bujumbura that will be presided over by the Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo Amooti, the Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese.

The candidates include Six (6) Diocesan Deacons and five (5) Missionary Deacons who will be ordained priests while Nine (9) seminarians are lined up for Diaconate.

The Diocesan candidates who are set for priestly ordination include Deacon Birungi Andrew from Rwemisanga Parish, Deacon Businge John from Murro Parish, Deacon Iyamuleme Anatoli from Burora Parish, Deacon Mukisa Peter from Kibeedi Parish, Deacon Sunday Joseph from Kasambya Parish and Deacon Tumukugize Gerald from Bujuni Parish.

Additionally, the missionary deacons to be ordained priests include; Deacon Edward Baharagate, O.C.D from Kakumiro, Deacon Mugwanya Peter Mary, O.C.D from Buseesa are from the discalced Carmelite Order while Deacon Sewanyana Joseph, CMF from Bukuumi and Deacon Simon Tumusiime, CMF from Murro who are from the Claretians Missionaries and Deacon John Bosco Tusingwire, AJ, from St. Jude Town Parish Masindi is from the Institute of Apostolic Life of the Apostles of Jesus.

Similarly, Deacon Douglas Godfrey Alinaitwe, C.S.C from St. Cyprian, a member of the Congregation of Holy Cross will be ordained a priest on the same day at Kyarusozi Parish in Fort Portal Diocese.

Those candidates to be ordained Deacons are; Sem. Agenonga Collins from Kigumba Parish, Sem. Alfred Okwir from Biiso, Sem. Andrew Tumusiime from Kagadi, Sem. Christopher Mwebesa from Bwikara and Sem. Denis Jumba from Kasambya.

Others are Sem. Deogratias Ssebiranda from Bujuni, Sem. Emmanuel Alinaitwe from Nalweyo, Sem. Richard Tumusiime from Kitoba and Sem. John Wamani from Kitoba Parish.

In a communiqué dated 16th June 2024 and signed by Rev. Fr. Dominic Ndugwa, the Chancellor Hoima Catholic diocese, Christians are urged to pray for the candidates to be fruitful in the vineyard of the Lord.

The joyful Christians in the diocese are generously collecting resources to ensure that the event for this year is a success.

In 2023, 17 candidates were ordained priests and deacons while in 2022, 12 were ordained priests and eight (8) Deacons respectively.

Hoima Catholic diocese which started in 1965 with 7 parishes is currently marking fifty nine (59) years of existence and is now composed of 51 parishes spread in the four Vicariates of Hoima (13), Masindi (14), Kibaale (16) and Kagadi (09).
